Celebrating Life
We are so excited to report that we have reached some great new levels with the 2008 walk and concert: our biggest turnout, our most widespread media presence, our largest fundraising total, our most extensive sponsorship support, and of course, a whole lot of fun as always! Thanks to supporters like you, we are able to carry on and expand the important work of supporting people who are affected by brain tumors. Here are a few of our remarkable statistics that you helped to make happen:
* Over 450 people participated in the walk, including many in wheel chairs, an 88-year old woman walking in memory of her son, and a man who had brain tumor surgery just 10 days prior.
* To date, over $37,000 was raised by our walkers (and even folks who couldn't be at the walk!)
* We were supported with $20,000 from our generous sponsors.
* We gained awareness for the MQBTF through media appearances on WFPL's State of Affairs - Click to Listen!
WFPK's morning show, WAVE 3 Listens, WHAS News at Noon, and numerous articles/mentions in the Courier-Journal.
* In addition to all the folks who walked and raised money for the Foundation, over 75 people volunteered their time and talents to make the events run smoothly.
* Our top fundraising team was Team Blincoe, raising $3,225. Team Hodes was a close runner up (thanks as well to those walking in honor of Damien Kline) at $3,185. Raising over $1,000 were Team Morris (in honor of Becky Morris), Team Kiely Hines, Team Cathy Jones (in memory of her), Tom's Turtles (in memory of Tom Thomas), Team Courier-Journal (in memory of Michael Quinlan), Team Humana Walking for Hope/Team Komp (in honor of Linda Stansbury and John Komp), Raising over $500.00 were Jeffersonville High Anchor Club (in honor of Juliana Smith), Team Dobben (in honor of Gerald McGuffey), Miles for Giles (in honor of Miles Schuckmann and in memory of J.C. Boone), Team Renck (in honor of Craig Renck), Team Thornhill (in memory of Ann Ponzi and J. Wendell Roberts), Team Chiszar (in memory of Erik Alvey), Team Miracle Man (in honor of Rick Coulter), Team Rapcat (in memory of Scott Pritchett), and Candi's Apples (in honor of Candace Boone), To view all of those honored and memorialized click here.
* All in all, the walk and concert raised over $57,000 for the Foundation! To view photos click here!
Thank you again for a wonderful event! We will continue our work for those affected by brain tumors: educating, advocating and supporting people mentally, spiritually and financially.
* If you've been meaning to send in your donation, but just haven't been able to yet, you can still support the MQBTF by visiting http://www.active.com/donate/mqbtf08walk to donate online.
